Parent School Partnership (PSP) Program

Parent School Partnership (PSP) Program

Since 1989, MALDEF's Parent School Partnership (PSP) Program has trained thousands of parents and community leaders throughout the nation to become change agents in their communities. The 12-session PSP program provides parents with the tools necessary to become more effective advocates in improving their children's educational attainment, schools, and community.

Bring PSP to Your School

MALDEF currently offers PSP programs in the greater Los Angeles area in California, in Atlanta, Georgia, and in several cities in Illinois, including Chicago, Elgin, and Waukegan.

MALDEF's PSP Training Manual and Curriculum

MALDEF provides Train-the-Trainer workshop to groups that are ready to learn how to teach the Parent School Partnership (PSP) Program to parents in their communities. Training is provided by MALDEF staff and provides an informative experience that prepares community leaders throughout the nation to become MALDEF PSP-trained educators. The PSP program provides all of the tools necessary to launch classes for parents in their communities, including hand-outs and templates for reproduction.

Parents' Rights and Responsibilities

Education is essential to the development of every child and for the progress of every community. In the United States, every child is entitled to a free high-quality K-12 public education regardless of race, nationality, native language, gender, or immigration status and is free to enjoy it without the fear of unlawful discrimination or fear of deportation. This important presentation is available in CA, IL, and GA.

Alumni Affairs-Parents in Action

After parents graduate from our 12-week program, they are encouraged to participate in alumni activities to continue strengthening their leadership skills, to practice their advocacy skills, and to increase their knowledge on K-12 education and higher education.

Alumni Newsletter

Graduates can stay in touch with PSP through our quarterly newsletter and read about current activities, feature stories, trends in education and opportunities to continue to be an active member in the program.

Campaign for High School Equity (CHSE)

MALDEF is a member of this diverse coalition of national organizations representing communities of color that believe public high schools should have the capacity and motivation to prepare every student for graduation, college, work, and life. The CHSE coalition also coordinates strategies with local partners to influence and or monitor the implementation of Common Core State Standards.
